Birmingham: Lobster – Live ska / reggae / hip hop / punk at The Dark Horse!

June 16, 2017 at Dark Horse Moseley in Birmingham.

Lobster biography:

We’re Lobster, a six-piece reggae and hip-hop influenced punk band from Birmingham. We’ve been together for about seven years now, honing our sound and plugging away, playing regular gigs in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands area, as well as various excursions to cities outside our home region.
Since forming we’ve released 5 DIY EPs and a single, with our most recent demo released just recently on the 28th October, for which we threw a big release party at the club night (“Lobster Shack”) that we run every three months or so at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath, Birmingham. As well as Lobster Shack, we are also blessed to have played at numerous local events and festivals in Brum, such as Reggae City Festival, Brum Punx Picnic, CoCoMad Festival, City of Colours, Simmer Down and Project Soundlounge, as well as numerous Leftfoot, Freestyle and Punks Alive events. Further to this we were asked to close the 2014 TEDxBrum event at the Library of Birmingham and have presented a live music showcase at the REP theatre. We’ve found that our sound fits in just as well at dub and reggae events as it does at punk gigs, and have shared the stage with bands from just about any genre you could care to name, from jazz and hip-hop to death metal and indie!
A further source of pride to us has been the numerous times that we have been lucky enough to open for bands and artists that have had an influence on our sound. We have shared the stage with the likes of Macka B, Solo Banton, Zion Train, Dreadzone, The Beat, By The Rivers, PAIN, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Sonic Boom Six, Inner Terrestrials, OPM and a number of others. We have experience of playing at festivals, including Glastonbudget, Nozstock, One Love and Outcider.

This June, Fat Penguin Improv presents Foghorn

The sun is finally out, or perhaps it isn’t, I wrote this back in December – but none the less we are pleased to present Birmingham based narrative long form super group Foghorn!

As always, the Patrick Kavanagh’s resident improv troupe, fat penguin will open and host a night of improv immersion just for you, the audience! We will be performing some comedy formats from our workshop.

Then, having seen them perform many times myself, our first ever specialist narrative troupe, Foghorn. The laughs are genuine, rich and earned. We connect with their deep, layered characters because the performers themselves are brave enough to be so honest and vulnerable on stage. You will not believe that this is all made up!

To finish, as always – all of our performers will come together for our now famous ‘Improv Jam’ whee literally anything can happen

Birmingham: Train Aesthetic Trainers

June 12, 2017 at Crowne Plaza Birmingham NEC in Birmingham.

Teaching others is an art that comes naturally to few, but is a skill that can easily be learned. Such skills are an important part of work as a key opinion leader as well as those involved in providing training in Aesthetics. Whether we like it or not, others often judge our competence, based on our presentation skills. Effective presentation is the ability to communicate a message to an audience in a way that produces a desired change in their understanding or opinion.

Preparation is the key to success, and a structured approach to preparation is essential. Often the untrained teacher focuses on passing as much information to the audience as possible, with little thought given to the essentials such as what they hope the learners will achieve, what they want participants to do when they leave the event, how can they establish rapport quickly and effectively, or which visual aids work best.

A fully qualified faculty will facilitate this programme and the participants will evaluate the program as well as be assessed in their skills to be a trainer and be given feedback and support in developing the required skills. This is an independent programme and is not sponsored by any organization and has been approved by The Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom for 15 category 1 (external) CPD credit(s)
