Birmingham: Boulton Would be Proud: Silver Talk

June 22, 2017 at AnchorCert Group in Birmingham.

tracking.php?code=giTN3PAOIayV21QMZpAhN2

Boulton would be proud” provides an overview of the long history and success of Assay Office Birmingham since it was founded as a result of Matthew Boulton’s efforts in 1773.

The talk will take a glimpse back into the early history of the Office, the reasons Boulton fought so hard for it and the factors which have driven its growth and survival over the past 243 years.

The main focus will be on the last two decades and the changing market and landscape which have required the Assay Office to reinvent itself as the AnchorCert Group in a brand new building, within the Jewellery Quarter.

The Assay Office is the last remaining enterprise founded by Boulton and he would indeed be proud of the continuing passion, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, which drives the Assay Office from strength to strength.

The talk will be delivered by Marion Wilson who joined the Birmingham Assay Office in 2000.

The Assay Office has a private Silver Collection and Library and visitors will be able to browse these at the end of the visit.

Birmingham: Lobster – Live ska / reggae / hip hop / punk at The Dark Horse!

June 16, 2017 at Dark Horse Moseley in Birmingham.

tracking.php?code=Py1LVWN0EuzzulsvwYo3FE

Lobster biography:

We’re Lobster, a six-piece reggae and hip-hop influenced punk band from Birmingham. We’ve been together for about seven years now, honing our sound and plugging away, playing regular gigs in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands area, as well as various excursions to cities outside our home region.
Since forming we’ve released 5 DIY EPs and a single, with our most recent demo released just recently on the 28th October, for which we threw a big release party at the club night (“Lobster Shack”) that we run every three months or so at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath, Birmingham. As well as Lobster Shack, we are also blessed to have played at numerous local events and festivals in Brum, such as Reggae City Festival, Brum Punx Picnic, CoCoMad Festival, City of Colours, Simmer Down and Project Soundlounge, as well as numerous Leftfoot, Freestyle and Punks Alive events. Further to this we were asked to close the 2014 TEDxBrum event at the Library of Birmingham and have presented a live music showcase at the REP theatre. We’ve found that our sound fits in just as well at dub and reggae events as it does at punk gigs, and have shared the stage with bands from just about any genre you could care to name, from jazz and hip-hop to death metal and indie!
A further source of pride to us has been the numerous times that we have been lucky enough to open for bands and artists that have had an influence on our sound. We have shared the stage with the likes of Macka B, Solo Banton, Zion Train, Dreadzone, The Beat, By The Rivers, PAIN, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Sonic Boom Six, Inner Terrestrials, OPM and a number of others. We have experience of playing at festivals, including Glastonbudget, Nozstock, One Love and Outcider.
