Birmingham: Birmingham International Marathon

October 15, 2017 at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice in Birmingham.


To be staged for the first time on Sunday 15th October 2017, this 26.2 mile event will be the inaugural run of the newly formed Great Run Marathon series. This is the first full marathon to take place in Birmingham since 1989, and it promises to be a huge occasion.

If you’d like to take on this challenge whilst supporting your local Hospice why not take one of our FREE event places?

The Birmingham International Marathon will start at Alexander Stadium, the home of British Athletics. The course will then take in a number of the city’s most iconic landmarks before finishing in the city centre.

The event, which will be staged on the same day as the Great Birmingham Run, will be a notable occasion with an aim to see over 8,000 + runners cross the finish line.

This event will be a huge celebration of running for all, offering an ideal opportunity to improve the strength and depth of British marathon running. Both events are perfect for runners of all abilities – for the challenge or just for fun!

We are delighted to be a charity partner for the Birmingham International Marathon and have 30 free charity places on offer to supporters who can pledge to raise a minimum of £300 for the Hospice. J. Cole announces “4 Your Eyez Only” World Tour.


Multi platinum-selling artist J. Cole will embark on a 57-city world tour this June, with the UK leg of the tour kicking off in October.

The 4 Your Eyez Only tour kicks off with a run of small, intimate shows before going into the big arenas in North America. The US leg is followed by a six-date tour across the UK stopping in Nottingham, Birmingham, London, Cardiff, Manchester and Leeds.

The 4 Your Eyez Only Tour follows Cole’s 2015 tour which was the highest-selling hip hop tour of that year, after which Cole embarked on an international festival run in 2016.

Vélo Birmingham promises to be a celebration of cycling on a truly epic scale.

On the weekend of September 23 & 24 2017 Birmingham will host a spectacular 15,000 capacity 100 mile closed road sportive together with the third annual edition of the hugely popular BikeFest, the free cycling festival which includes a closed road family ride along with fun cycling related activities for all ages.

The action will kick off on Saturday morning when thousands of sportive riders begin to flood into Birmingham to collect their race packs and soak up the fantastic atmosphere.

As dawn breaks on Sunday morning, 15,000 riders will line up in the heart of the city ready to embark on the challenge of a lifetime. The closed road 100 mile route will take riders on an unforgettable adventure from city to country, passing through the picturesque counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire before returning to Birmingham.

Each year John Taylor Hospice celebrates its birthday with a party – and you’re invited.

Our 2016 event was our biggest and best ever with a choice of walks and a bumper fun day.

And so many families said they want to join us for 2017 that we’ve already set the date – Sunday 1 October.

Taking place at Hollyfields Centre in Woodacre Road, off Holly Lane, in Erdington, there will be entertainment, stalls and games for all ages.

Jay terms his comedy as Social Conscience Comedy, this genre underlines observational, political and straight stand-up, and he likes to make people think about his material after they’ve laughed.
He was heavily involved with Comedy Improvisation, as part of the first all Asian Impro Team, which now tours Canada and the US.
Writing is a passion of Jay’s and he has written a material including sketch shows for TV and a feature length film script.
He also made a short film and entered it into a major short film competition, and made it through to the final.

In the little spare time he has, Jay teaches stand-up comedy.

He has appeared everywhere from tiny comedy clubs to large theatres to Television and even around the world (France, Croatia, New York, LA).

** Mickey Sharma **

Mickey Sharma’s mix of comedy and another form of artistry (you will see what I mean) make him as unique as he is funny. His high and contagious energy helps him tame any crowd no matter their age, gender, ethnicity or amount of alcohol consumed.

Mickey is extremely comfortable anywhere on the bill; be it MC, opening or closing. A highly regarded act that will have you trying to copy his catchy material (unsuccessfully) for a long time after seeing him.

Mickey is an Indian that was born in Pakistan (its true!) in ’82 while his father was working for the Indian Embassy. After living in Pakistan, the family moved to Beijing, then Hong Kong, before finally moving back to India in ’90, where he lived till 9th September ’02, when he moved to Birmingham!

Having endured various jobs like a waiter, shelf stacker, camera assistant and Bouncer, Mickey started comedy in July ’09 and now works as a full time comic and travels all over the UK and sometimes abroad (Spain, Romania, India, Czech Republic). Amongst other competitions, he was Winner Bath Comedy Festival New Act Competition 2010.

** Sukh Kaur Ojla **
Sukh Kaur Ojla is a UK based actress, writer, comedian and professional daydreamer.

Sukh has appeared in a number of theatre productions as well as TV appearances such as Victoria and Abdul, Black Mirror & EastEnders.

Sukh is one of the names to watch out for on the comedy circuit. Having played from small rooms she was recently selected for the BBC Asian Network Live event – her observation about the disadvantages of having to move back in with her parents, including not being allowed to ever turn over from the Sikh channel featured as one of the funniest moments of the night!
