Birmingham: A Letter For Animals – DxE January Day of Action

January 30, 2016 at Birmingham City Centre in Birmingham.

To start off the new year, activists with DxE will be delivering a letter for animals, asking businesses across the world to stop the violence against the innocent. Check below for an event in your city. If you don’t see your city listed, please e-mail us at mentoring@directactioneverywhere.com.
MODEL ACTION PLAN:

Wielding a large banner with fraudulent marketing (e.g. HUMANE MEAT) on it – activists go in as a group, and place themselves in a line behind the checkout counters (facing the counters/rest of the store). A leader leads the mic check, one line at a time, the remaining activists echo each line with signs held up.

At the end of the mic check, activists tear in half the banner – symbolising animal activists no longer endorsing Whole Foods’ (or other animal abusers’) false compassion for animals.

At the end, activists chant while exiting through the store.

This store/restaurant says they care about animals.
Their marketing relies on
their supposed compassion for animals.
A recent investigation
of a top tier rated farm
revealed a brutal hypocrisy
It revealed that disease and death is prevalent in every farm
It revealed that
Under the guise of compassion
Stores/restaurants like this one
are profiting from violence against animals.
Practices allowed by so-called humane farms include:
Castrating baby pigs, without anesthesia
Snapping birds’ necks by hand
Using hot irons to sear the heads of baby calves
And of course:
Killing animals no different from the dogs we love
Killing animals who do not want to die
Violence and murder is inherent in every farm.
We therefore ask you
to end fraudulent marketing,
to stop deceiving consumers,
and to truly live up to your own values
of animal compassion.
THE CAMPAIGN:

DxE’s organizers around the world build empowered networks for animal liberation. Based on the most innovative scholarship on social change and the recent successes of the animal rights movement in countries around the world, DxE’s model focuses on building the kindling for a true social movement to be set ablaze. We do this by: (1) supporting activists locally in speaking strongly for animals under our organizing principles (http://directactioneverywhere.com/organizing-principles/); and (2) connecting those activists with others worldwide to create empowered networks for change.

Animal rights activists in over 145 cities and 29 countries have united under the banner “It’s not Food. It’s Violence” since our campaign started in October 2013.

But we need your help to keep up the momentum. Join us this month as we demand an end to atrocities against innocent animals.

What previous participants from Autism West Midlands Sandwell have said
Student A
I’ve found the relaxation classes of great benefit.
My life can be stressful at times looking after my son, caring for my mom and working. The breathing exercises have worked great especially at times when I’ve been feeling stressed and don’t have time to sit and relax. It’s something that you can do anytime, any place.
I suffer with migraines/headaches and since doing the Monday classes, I haven’t suffered at all on a Monday.
I have done the relaxation CD at home and I’ve found this very beneficial too. It’s learnt me how to stop and switch off for a while.
I’ve also learnt the benefits of certain foods and why we need them and how they can help combat stress and other problems.
I will definitely look into doing something similar now the classes have finished and would recommend them to anyone who has a stressful life and needs to learn to relax.

Student B
Generally more ‘awake’ during the day. My body lets me know more when it needs to relax. For the first time I listen! Tummy improvements.

Student C
I am recovering from stressful events and situations much quicker. On Mondays especially I feel a lot more grounded and less ‘on alert’.
My ears seem less blocked up and my head is less ‘heavy’. I often would have to hold my head in my hands to support it but now I feel less aware of it.
I think feeling calmer has helped me to manage the children better but it has also given me clarity to see things in my life that are making me unhappy and take steps to change those.
I am more aware of when I am taking too much on and I need to stop.

Student D
My thoughts have improved a lot. I am able to cope with stress overall.

Birmingham: Little Liam + special guests – DUKE

January 29, 2016 at Actress and Bishop (official) in Birmingham.

Little Liam – Live @ The Actress & Bishop Jan 29th with support in the fine form of DUKE.

Advanced ticket details to follow.

Singer of Little Liam, Liam Garland had a musical upbringing by the side’s of Brit pop Giants. As a young lad he watched magical times unfold & was nurtured onto a musical path. He has kept on walking that very path & has persistently kept writing. Since 2009 he’s mixed with other young talents from the Birmingham Mod & Guitar music scene. Which eventually resulted in the formation of “The Little Liam Band” or just “Little Liam” as his piers so fondly named him. The songs are far from little however, as they are now writing as a band their sound has become a lot more diverse. Their songs have echo’s of the sounds of yesteryear, yet its totally fitting for tomorrow. Its Folky, Smooth, Its got Rock n Roll & Soul flowing through it. With the emphasis on great vocal’s, harmonies & a feelgood vibe. They have a tight backline & a Alluring Inspiring Front Line. Every song has a message or story you can interpret into anyone’s lives. They’re out to enjoy it, so you do to. ‘I get this feeling’ you will, if you see Little Liam acoustic or full band. They have just finished recording their Debut Album ‘We Are One’. Engineered & Produced by Platinum disc producer Gavin Monaghan & Joesph Murray of Magic Garden Studios. The band explained expectations were at an all time high before & during the recording, to capture Our first Record in the best way we could. Our expectation’s on what we could achieve was sent flying into the stratosphere. The Album the band say is a Milestone so far, & an insight of what is to come for everyone, we have arrived & WE ARE ONE.
