Bristol: Darlingside

July 02, 2017 at The Lantern in Bristol.

tracking.php?code=HZONxWq26n2HayeNB1yr1h

Starting with their breakthrough performance at last years Cambridge Folk Festival and taking in a series of rapturously received UK shows, Darlingside are rapidly earning a reputation as the most exciting Americana band around.
Absorbing influences from 60s folk, chamber pop, bluegrass, classical music, and modern indie rock, they pay reference to giants such as CSNY and Simon and Garfunkel, yet their sound is entirely unique. Their breathtaking musical virtuosity, celestial harmonies and unforgettable songs have earned comments such as “locomotive folk-pop confections so richly executed it’s hard to tell if it’s one voice or 12″ Rolling Stone. Unmissable.

Bristol: Darlingside (in The Lantern)

July 02, 2017 at Colston Hall in Bristol.

Sunday 2 July 2017
£19.35 incl. booking fee
The Lantern
Doors – 19:30
Start – 20:00

With rich vocal harmonies at the centrepiece of Darlingside’s songs, they may pay reference to folk giants such as Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Simon and Garfunkel and others of that ilk. Yet the myriad influences that feed into their sound – from baroque pop, bluegrass, indie rock and cinematic orchestral textures – together generate a winning musical identity that is built on much more than a simplistic rehashing of existing musical ideas.
Already transcending typical genre stereotypes with just two albums under their belts, Darlingside are a truly original band on the cusp of renown.

Bristol: Birmingham Royal Ballet Coppelia

June 28, 2017 at Bristol Hippodrome in Bristol.

tracking.php?code=jx4modpL2LqE89KxVA5Md1

When eccentric toymaker Dr Coppélius leaves his greatest creation, the doll Coppélia, on his workshop balcony she’s soon causing quite a stir in the village. Lovers Franz and Swanilda both want to find out what is going on; but things are even stranger than they seem. With a wild mix of abracadabra, comic chaos is unleashed as Dr Coppélius tries to bring Coppélia to life and Swanilda tries to stop him.

A timeless classic from the golden age of classical ballet, Coppélia, with its tuneful, romantic music, stands alongside such classics as Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty as one of the great works of the 19th century.
