If your new year’s resolution is to spend less time staring at a screen (like me) then come and join us for live entertainment on January 14th
! It’s like getting your 5 a day, but for your soul.
Athena Kugblenu will be our opening act: Athena is a comic, event host and writer with intelligent, thought-provoking jokes that still have an edgy sting. She has been entertaining audiences all over the UK since April 2012.
You may remember her from the 2015 Finals of the BBC new comedy award, take a butchers at her website: http://www.athenakugblenu.co.uk/
“An intelligent set that managed to be both easily accessible and playful and still say something serious” –Bruce Dessau
“..socially astute…savvy observations…”–Steve Bennett
“A politically-aware standup and writer…conscious, confident and cool” –The Stand Up Picture Show, Bristol
Steve Mclean returns to our club because so many of you loved him last time. He is a stand-up based in East London. Merging sharp word play with inane chat and the occasional visual gag, his set is filled with variety and colour. He pronounces his name to rhyme with Shirley or John and not the toothpaste.
He’s got his own facebook group:
The brilliant Jake Lambert will also be treating us to his presence/performance. He recently supported Matt Richardson on his UK tour and was nominated for the Leicester Mercury New Comedian of the Year so we’re lucky to get him.
“Brilliant one-liners” – Chortle.
“An abundance of one-liners, clever wordplay, short stories and strange thoughts which deliver a constant stream of laughter.” – Comedy Cow.
“Destined for big things” – Laughing Badger Comedy.
Closing the show will be the gorgeous Gwilum Argos.
Gwilum is a musical comedian/MC and started doing stand up comedy in August 2007. Gwilum has a warm and confident on-stage persona, which lends itself naturally to audience interaction – his act consists of guitar based songs, observations, strange
impressions, quirky theories, improvised songs and one liners.
” Very funny material, beautifully delivered.” – Keyna Doran (Chipping Camden promoter)
“Very very funny” – Iain Lee
“A brilliant set” – Tom Stade
