Cambridge: Embassy

January 20, 2016 at Fez Club, Cambridge in Cambridge.

Techno is the key to an evolving rave culture. What began in the nightclubs of Detroit quickly spread to the derelict warehouses of London and the abandoned plattenbauten of Berlin. Its progression was rapid. A dark mechanical, industrial, grinding machine of movement. A train that never stops. Techno is a soundtrack for the wired world.

Cambridge: Saturday France vs New World Wine Tasting in a beautiful Cambridge College

March 05, 2016 at Gonville and Caius College, Trinity Street, Cambridge, CB2 1TA, United Kingdom in Cambridge.

Come and enjoy a friendly, informal and fun wine journey through OLD WORLD and NEW WORLD wines, tasting at least 13 wines from around the world.

No previous experience necessary.

Beginning with Champagne, watch us open the bottle by ‘sabrage’ (using a sabre).

At Cambridge Wine School we host our Saturday Wine Courses in the beautiful surrounds of Gonville and Caius college, one of the oldest university colleges in Cambridge. Founded in 1348, it’s the one where Professor Stephen Hawking is a fellow.

Half way through the day we take a break from the hard work of wine tasting to enjoy a delicious two-course lunch.

This fascinating course is a great introduction to wine comparing the classic wine regions of France directly with the best the New World can offer using the same grapes.

Learn all the basics about the different grape varieties and compare the wines blind side by side. Learn how to taste wine like a professional.

COURSE OUTLINE

Burgundy vs New World (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir)
Bordeaux vs New World (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blends)
Rhone vs New World (Grenache and Shiraz)
Loire and Alsace vs New World (Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling)
How to taste wines like a professional – aroma, flavours, describing wines
Recognising elements of wine (tannin, acidity, oak)

All our courses can be purchased as a gift and our Gift Vouchers NEVER EXPIRE (see the gift voucher section in our website menu). You can either purchase a specific date and then email asking for a voucher or buy an undated voucher (so the recipient can choose from our wide range of dates). Cambridge: Arcsoc’s “Paradise Garage” Night of Disco

January 19, 2016 at Lola Lo Cambridge in Cambridge.

// 19th JAN 2016 //
// LOLA-LO’S CAMBRIDGE //
// ARCSOC //

Arcsoc returns in 2016 after a feverish first term to continue shaking the dull daylight out of Cambridge nightlife.

Get ready for some sweltering underground disco because we’re gonna be paying tribute to New York’s finest discotheque, The Paradise Garage. Forget Studio 54! Running from 1977 to 1987, this former parking garage at 84 King Street made its mark on dance and pop music history, widely acknowledged as the precursor to house music, and even UK Garage.

Today the Paradise Garage has sadly gone back to being a garage (for Bell Atlantic trucks) but we can still go back to the days of the heaven in a car park with Larry Levan, Chic, Sister Sledge, Madonna, Grace Jones, Cindi Lauper, Donna Summer, Chaka Kahn, Marshall Jefferson, Whitney Houston, Change, Jocelyn Brown, Loletta Holloway.
