Glasgow: Big Smile Big Band

June 09, 2017 at SECC Glasgow in Glasgow.

How would you like to be involved in setting a world record right here in our very own city?

Glasgow Dental School and the Glasgow Dental Alumnus Association are joining forces for what promises to be a very exciting event happening in June 2017 so clear your diary as this is not one to be missed!

This event comes as part of our celebrations of National Smile Month campaign which takes place from mid-May to mid-June in 2017. National Smile Month aims to provide education and spread positive oral health messages across Scotland. We are teaming up with Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, NHS Health Scotland, Childsmile, the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners and the Dental Faculty of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow to organise this event. The Dental School ‘Glasgow Oral Health Improvement Student Society’ (GOHISS) will also be playing a leading role in the event.

Part 1 – The Big Smile
We are hoping to set a new world record in the Guinness Book of World Records by creating the world’s largest smile! This will involve a mass participation art project assembling 1,000 people in the shape of a big smile, which will be captured by photography. The Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre (SECC) is donating both a covered space and stewards to help with logistics on the day.

All participants will receive a certificate as proof of their involvement in setting the record, together with a ‘goody bag’ containing oral health aids and other relevant health promotion literature

Part 2 – The Big Band
Once the smile is completed, the Glasgow Dental School Big Band will be hosting a concert to celebrate setting the record and to provide some musical entertainment throughout the day during the health promotional events which will take place throughout the day.

Stay tuned for further exciting updates as the planning continues and on how to register for the event. This is not one to be missed – get involved in something great happening in your city!
