Liverpool: The Last Waltz

December 02, 2017 at Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in Liverpool.

Saturday 2 December 2017 8pm
Music Room

The Last Waltz

On 25 November, 1976, at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, The Band performed their last ever concert after 16 years on the road. On that faithful night they were joined by some ‘friends’ – Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Muddy Waters, Van Morrison, Dr John, Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris & Joni Mitchell to name but a few.

In recognition of the influence that night has had on songwriters since, Seafoam Green & Mellowtone celebrate with a concert of songs from the very setlist on that day in 1976. This event is not meant to be viewed as a tribute night; this too is a band and friends, celebrating one of the most influential evenings in music history. Join Dave O’Grady’s Seafoam Green for what’s set to be a special performance.

Liverpool: Ghost Hunt Mansion House St Helens

December 01, 2017 at Fourth Element Paranormal Research Events in Liverpool.

Tickets £22pp

Will you be fortunate to encounter the Lady in white who was seen on our last investigation, floating across the garden towards the orangery and then disappeared when she reached it?

A short history

Around 1850 John Andsell, a solicitor in this small but rapidly expanding town of St Helens, requested the building of Cowley House – the original name of the Mansion House.

The brewing and coal owning Speakman family had become his inlaws, when after his partner Richard Speakman’s death, John married his widow. When John Andsell’s brother-in-law John Speakman died, Andsell quickly purchased the land he had owned on the northern side of Cowley Hill.

It is very much a Victorian Gentleman’s residence. It’s imposing entrance porch led to a spacious central hall and elegant staircase. The tile work which adorned the first floor was said to have been laid by specialists brought over from Italy.
This was the first public park in St Helens and was opened on Monday 14th April 1886.

The building was transformed into an art gallery and museum. Many of the exhibits were donated as gifts by local individuals and remained on display until the building ceased to be a museum in 1966.

Liverpool: Squeeze

November 04, 2017 at Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in Liverpool.

South-London legends embark on a major UK tour. This follows the success of their North American tour in 2016 and the incredible reception to their latest album Cradle To The Grave. The band are also currently working on a new album for 2017. As well as a vast catalogue including hits such as ‘Cool For Cats’, ‘Up The Junction’ and ‘Tempted’, now they have Cradle To The Grave to draw on, their first collection of new tracks since 1998.

This album marked the complete and, frankly, triumphant reintegration of the masterful song writing axis of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, in a beautifully-observed series of fond vignettes about childhood, growing up and the absurdities of the ride through life we’re all on. The live band now features a six-piece line up with Chris and Glenn joined by Simon Hanson (drums), Lucy Shaw (bass), Stephen Large (keyboards) and Melvin Duffy (guitar and various instruments).

Support comes from Nine Below Zero. Since their formation in 1977 the band have carved out a strong reputation as a live band, with The Crack magazine describing them as ‘one of the best blues bands in the country.’
