London: Natasha Rizopoulos: align your flow

July 01, 2017 at triyoga in London.

tracking.php?code=Dn1kjkLdrOZrqUeczDIitZ

triyoga soho
open to all levels

Take your Vinyasa Yoga practice to the next level with Natasha Rizopoulos, a renowned senior teacher and contributor to the yoga journal.

In this weekend of workshops, Natasha will guide you through a comprehensive and challenging exploration of Vinyasa Yoga. Whatever your level of experience, Natasha’s ability to communicate the fundamental principles of breath and alignment will help you to refine and deepen your practice. Her teaching style combines a sense of humour and fun with a passionate commitment to helping students explore their Yoga with integrity and intelligence. The result is an experience of greater joy and ease, both on the mat and beyond.

Saturday 1 July 10:00-12:30
cultivating the core
Core stability is a key ingredient for a well-rounded asana practice and a healthy lower back. We’ll begin with a review of the key muscles that create strength at the centre. Then we’ll put theory into practice in a sequence that will bring intelligence and tone to the muscles that support your torso and pelvis. We’ll examine poses and transitions that you can incorporate into your regular practice, and explore how transformative this work can be, in terms of asana, posture and overall well-being.

Saturday 1 July 14:00-16:00
chair love affair – your new favourite assistant
Working with a chair can transform your practice and allow you to experience deep opening in otherwise stubborn areas of the body. In this revelatory practice, we’ll look at standing poses, backbends and inversions. Your hip flexors and upper back will never be the same.

Sunday 2 July 10:00-12:30
talk about a revolution – the power of twisting
Twists are an amazing family of poses that can be explored for a variety of different effects. They are powerful tools that awaken the mid and upper back, and essential preparation for backbends and inversions. Conversely, they are also wonderful counter poses after these postures, and as such can have a cooling and neutralizing effect. We’ll look at standing, seated and supine twists and examine what they share, as well as their different energetic impacts. You’ll leave class refreshed and alert, with increased awareness and mobility in your thoracic spine.

Sunday 2 July 14:00-16:00
bending forward + looking inward
Forward bends offer a tremendous opportunity to settle down and quiet the mind. But not if the hamstrings are tight and pulling on the pelvis and lumbar spine. In this class we’ll move through a sequence designed to progressively and mindfully release the back body, so you can truly enjoy the benefits of these calming postures.

*** If booking for more than one person, please do so by calling 020 7483 3344. Do not book via website or the second person will not appear on the roster. ***

Natasha is a Senior Teacher at Down Under Yoga in Boston, where she offers classes and leads 200 and 300-Hr Teacher Training programs. Through her travels and work with Yoga Journal, she is known world-wide for her ability to communicate the essence of sophisticated postures and ideas in ways that have a transformative effect upon one’s understanding of Yoga.

A dedicated Ashtanga practitioner for many years, she is equally captivated by the precision of the Iyengar system. These two traditions inform her teaching, creating a dynamic and alignment– based system of Vinyasa Flow.

triyoga camden
for established ashtanga practitioners

Counted Primary Series, Pranayma, Concepts of the Ashtanga Method, Technique and Guided Self-Practice

An opportunity to work closely and in a small group, with one of the few KPJAYI Certified Ashtanga yoga teachers and Advanced B practitioners.

Saturday morning will have everyone together for a traditional Sanskrit counted Primary Series Class, followed by a simple pranayama session. During the second half of the morning we will explore concepts of the Ashtanga method, such as tristhana and vinyasa (and how they can be applied to manifest safe asana technique, grace, strength, humility and peace) and the Eight Limbs of the Ashtanga system.

There will be two small groups for traditional ‘guided self-practice’ on the Sunday morning. Students will have the opportunity to deepen and develop their asana technique and practice, whilst being guided through methods of approaching the more challenging postures. Suitable for all levels of established Ashtanga practitioners. Maximum 20 people (10 in each self-practice group).

SCHEDULE

Saturday: 9.00am – 1.00pm
Sunday: 9.00am – 11.00am or 11.00am – 1.00pm

ABOUT PHILIPPA

From London, Philippa Asheris one of a few Ashtanga yoga practitioners in the world (and the only British woman), to be Certified to teach the traditional Ashtanga yoga method, by Sri K Pattabhi Jois. She has learned the Primary, Intermediate, Advanced A and Advanced B Series directly from Guruji and Sharath (at the Krishna Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India) and shares the Ashtanga system, internationally.
After a vocational ballet school training from age twelve and twenty five years of studying and teaching dance at universities and ballet companies all over the UK, Philippa randomly walked into an Ashtanga yoga class in London. It was a life-changing incident, that made complete sense.

From the late 1990s she began learning the Ashtanga system, daily before work (in the media, film and music industries). For over sixteen years she has studied for several months each year at KPJAYI in Mysore, practising under the guidance of revered guru Sri K Pattabhi Jois and his grandson Sharath Jois.

In 2006, Philippa established and ran Triyoga Soho’s Ashtanga self-practice programme in London. She taught there for five years before relocating to South India, to build her own shala (on a coffee estate in Sakleshpur, in the Western Ghats). ASHTANGA NIRVṚTA is a stunning homestay yoga retreat, which aims to bring Ashtanga yoga to all levels of practitioners, in nature.

As well as being the resident yoga teacher at ASHTANGA NIRVṚTA, Philippa also leads guest workshops at studios in India, Europe, London and on retreats worldwide. Her approach to sharing yoga asana (from beginners to more seasoned practitioners), is serious, yet light-hearted and joyful. Her emphasis is on good technique, safe alignment, the synchronisation of tristhana (breath, gaze points and movement) and passing on the exact method, as taught by Guruji.

Philippa’s dedicated passion for Ashtanga yoga, background as a trained dancer and experience as a qualified teacher (Post Graduate Certificate in the Education of Adults), gives her an intuitive and sound understanding of bodies, yoga asanas, people and how they learn. www.ashtangaphilippa.com
