Sheffield: Sunday Assembly Sheffield – Communication

January 17, 2016 at Connect The Dots in Sheffield.

Happy New Year!

Sunday Assembly is back for 2016 with a new all-accessible city centre venue. Our theme this month is Communication.

Our speaker, Michael Conroy started stammering as a young child; the affliction began to limit the quality of his life from the age of 8. Having been through failed attempts at NHS speech therapy, Michael joined the therapeutic McGuire Programme aged 16 – yet Michael still stammers. At Sunday Assembly Sheffield, Michael will look at stammering from several angles to consider the mental health aspects of the condition.

(DINA is a new venue in the city centre. It’s at 32 Cambridge Street S1 4HP opposite and down the road from John Lewis, next to Henry’s bar.)

LEARN – hear an expert speaker discuss communcation.
SING – 4 pop songs for you to sing along to for your delectation

Sheffield: Banana Hill Outlines Afterparty w/Andrew Ashong & Batida

February 27, 2016 at Queens Social Club in Sheffield.

From the people behind Tramlines comes the first ever Outlines Festival. A new, one-day multi-venue festival taking place across Sheffield City Centre on Saturday 27th February.

Expect a genre-spanning mix of established names and breaking talent, taking to the stage at venues including Skate Central, The Harley, Queens Social Club, Plug and o2 Academy.

Announced so far:

We have loved hosting Queens Social Club at Tramlines for the last couple of years, so jumped at the opportunity to get involved in the inaugural Outlines Festival this February and put together the official afterparty.
Joining us we have DJ sets from the ever-wonderful Andrew Ashong, and Portuguese producer Batida.

Banana Hill Outlines Festival Official Afterparty
Batida (Soundway Records)
JVC (KMAH Radio / Banana Hill)
Queens Social Club
£3 (when purchased with a full price festival ticket)

Debuting on Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature label with the truly incredible ‘Flowers’, Ashong has quickly garnered a global following with his special brand of danceable and smoky jazz & soul.
He also happens to be an amazing vinyl DJ, playing a smile-inducing mix of soul, funk, disco, bossa nova, afrobeat and more.

Drawing from a wide range of Afro-influenced styles, Angolan/Portuguese producer Batida creates a colourful cocktail of afro-electronic music. Signed to UK label, Soundway, Batida reinterprets Angola’s vibrant musical past by adding his own pulsating twist to skilfully blend the old with the new. Coming along for the ride with Batida will be his dancer, who will be sure to ignite the stage with his mesmeric movements. We’ve been massive fans of Batida for a while and you will have heard much of his music in our DJ sets, so we’re incredibly excited to bring him to Sheffield for the first time.

*** Please note, you can only attend this party by purchasing a ticket to Outlines Festival, and then the £3 add-on ***

Sheffield: Gett Off Second Birthday ~ ONEMAN (all night long) ~ Saturday 13th February

February 13, 2016 at The Harley in Sheffield.

ONEMAN (all night long)

We are pleased to announce that our special guest for our second birthday, will be none other than Oneman, playing an all-night set.

Rinse FM regular, Oneman is a DJ in the truest sense of the word. Alongside Ben UFO he is one of the biggest success stories to come out of the dubstep era, just for his pure skills on the turntables without ever releasing a record. He has been rocking clubs and festivals across the globe with his infectious blends and edits, either solo or B2B with the likes of Jamie XX or Jackmaster for over ten years now and shows no signs of slowing up.

It is very rare indeed for him to play somewhere quite as small as the Harley, so we are quite chuffed we have managed to get him to agree to an all-night long set for our birthday. It is going to be quite a party, so please dress to sweat x
